Chandler is a city located in Maricopa County, Arizona, USA. The city has a total population of 220,705. Chandler is noted for its annual Ostrich Festival (http://www.ostrichfestival.com/), and is the birthplace of St. Louis Rams strong safety Adam Archuleta. Located just outside Phoenix Az, Chandler is no longer the best kept secret of the East Valley of the Sun. Chandler is a town that has come a long way since it was founded by Dr. A.J. Chandler in 1912. What started as a sleepy little agricultural town emerged during the 1980's as a strong manufacturing center when high-tech industrial companies such as Intel, Motorola and Microchip Technology moved in. These and other high-tech companies employ more than 22,000 people in Chandler. As a matter of fact, over 75% of Chandler manufacturing jobs are in high technology fields, as compared to 15% at the national level. While maintaining its proud agricultural heritage, the Chandler community is unique in its ability to embrace the high-technology frontier. Chandler is often referred to as the "Silicon Desert of the Southwest".
Two new retail centers are on the horizon for Chandler. The first, Chandler Pavilions, a major power center is currently under construction and will feature more than 800,000 square fee of space including Golfsmith, Bed Bath & Beyond Borders Books, Comp USA, hotel and entertainment uses (including an ice skating rink) and several "theme" restaurants. The second, San Tan Fashion Center, standing at more than 1 million square feet is due for completion in early 2001. This upscale regional mall will feature major anchor tenants, specialty shops, a movie theater and restaurants.
When Chandler Fashion Center opened in October 2001, it became one of the premier shopping venues in the East Valley and made Chandler a must-stop destination for shoppers. This brand new regional mall coupled with the shopping areas of Casa Paloma, Chandler Pavilions and Historic Downtown offer a wide variety of options from one-of-a-kind shops to major retailers. Chandler has created a shoppers' paradise that will please even the most discriminating tastes.
In addition to major shopping centers, Chandler also has a balanced blend of smaller destination shops and restaurants that don't have the hustle and bustle of the large retail centers.
